State Report Guidelines

Due: March 31

Your state report will be organized in a file folder provided by Mrs. Compton. There are 4 sections to your report. Each section needs to be handwritten and hand-drawn. The only exception is the state symbol section.

*Front cover - State name, your name, 3rd grade, date

*Inside left page - State symbols information/pictures

*Inside right page - Handwritten report will be attached here.

          *Back cover - State map

Section information:

*Inside left page - Divide this section into four parts. You should find the state bird, tree, flower, and animal. You will have a picture of each symbol with a short handwritten caption for each. This should be 2-3 sentences. You may draw the pictures or print them from the computer.

*Inside right page - You will find this information in books or on the internet. Make sure you use complete sentences. The following information should be included in your handwritten report:

Physical features: What region is it in? What are the most important physical features

(rivers, mountains, etc.)? Tell about at least 3 physical features.

Natural resources: What are the natural resources in your state? Tell about at least 3

natural resources.

Important events: Tell about 3 important events in the state’s history (at least 2

sentences for each event).

Things to see and do: Why would people want to travel to your state? (parks, major

attractions, things to see and do) Tell about at least 3 interesting things to see or do.

Interesting information: Famous people from your state, interesting facts, etc. Write at

least 3 interesting facts.

***On the last page of your report, you need to include a bibliography. A bibliography is a list of the books and/or websites where you found your information. For a book you should include the title and author. For the website you need to list the web address.***

*Back cover - You will be given an outline map of your state. You need to label major physical features (rivers, mountains, lakes), the capital, and three of the state’s largest cities.
