Señora Noto, Spanish 2009-2010
Mission— To inspire academic achievement, responsible citizenship, understanding of other cultures, and an appreciation of foreign languages.
Overview— Each grade will have Spanish class once a week throughout the school year. During one trimester, students will have Spanish class twice a week.
Students will be exposed to Spanish through oral and written instruction. This is the second year of an exciting curriculum from the Archdiocese that focuses on the five C’s of foreign language: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Community. The focus of Spanish instruction will be to teach skill in speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, cultural awareness, and Spanish in the context of the Catholic Church.
Classroom Expectations— Students are expected to come to class ready to learn. Students are expected to actively participate in all activities including oral practice. They are held to a high standard when it comes to respecting each other and the learning environment.
Grading— Grading for kindergarten and first grade will be based on participation and effort. Students will be expected to show improvement in their Spanish as the school year progresses.
Grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 will be graded on participation, effort, and class work. There will be occasional quizzes as well as a test each trimester. There will be oral assessments of the Catholic prayers in Spanish. Students will generally not have homework unless they were unable to complete their work while in class.
Students are expected to maintain a folder with all of their Spanish papers. The information in these folders will come in handy when it comes time to study for tests. They will receive a grade based on the completeness of their Spanish folder each trimester. |
