First Grade News - May & June 2010

Religion

In May we finished our Religion book and prepared for the First Grade leading the Masses.  The students did a fantastic job and earned compliments from everyone.

We also studied the parts of the Mass and responses said during the Mass.

Reading

Red Group:  Treasures-Nature Watch

Yellow Group: Finished Practice Reader 2 and read most of the #4 Treasures

Green Group: Little Readers - 3 per week.

As a Class: Summative Book Reports - Henry and Mudge Series were chosen for reports. Each student read a book individually and wrote a book report.  The entire project was done at school.

Math

Students finished chapter 10 and continued to study addition facts.  Please review them over the Summer.  Begin asking them Subtraction facts to prepare for Second Grade.

Social Studies

We reviewed Social Studies vocabulary and studied patriotic symbols.

Science

THANK YOU

Thank you for all the wonderful support all year.

A special thanks to our room mother, Dianne Eto.  She organized all the volunteers for the parties, supplied much of the goodies for Valentine's Day Party, and the Class Picnic.  More kudos to Dianne. She provided the water guns which were such a hit that the Primary teachers have decided to make it an annual part of the picnic. All grades will have water guns and each teacher will carry a Super Soaker.  The kids loved getting the teachers, parents and each other.  It was a super hit!

A special note to this year's parents.  This group earned more complements than ever before.  They received over 125 complements from staff for being caught being good.  They were a wonderful class to work with.  They are sweet and happy, like sunshine in a pop-top can.  My thanks to you for raising them that way.  It made my year an especially enjoyable one.

Keep them reading over the summer.  Please don't let their skills get rusty.  They worked very hard this year.

Have a happy, healthy and holy summer.
